America, One Nation Under God? - Part 2
7/4/2025
What do people love the most today? If this were a multiple-choice question, and one of the answers was “God,” how many people would pick that answer? It’s not hard to imagine what other choices might be on that test. Today, Pastor John reads several “woes” from the prophet Isaiah. One of them is covetousness and materialism. Is that prevalent today in our country? What about in your life? And wouldn’t God have the same stance about it today as He did in Isaiah’s time?
Now, let’s join Pastor John in the book of Isaiah chapter 5 as he continues his message, America, One Nation Under God?

America, One Nation Under God? - Part 1
7/3/2025
When you look at events going on in the world today, you might ask yourself, “does God have a plan?” Did history have a start, and is it moving to an end, or do things just happen randomly without any overarching purpose? Today, Pastor John underscores that God does have a plan. History is not random, and God has been in control the entire time. And that includes you, your family, your city, and your country. What’s your role in furthering God’s plan? How are you a part of His redemptive purposes?

Grace Giving (Study 2) - Part 2
7/2/2025
How many times have you had an opportunity to do something generous, and you really felt God was calling you to do so, but you hesitated? Why did that happen? Maybe, as Pastor John talks about today, it was because you were afraid that God wouldn’t take care of you in the future. If you give something away today, you can’t spend it tomorrow. God’s helped you so far, but will He keep on helping you in the future? The answer to that question is faith: Faith in the continuing faithfulness of God.

If you think of people who are very, very rich, you can probably also think of some of the charitable causes they give to. But can you imagine an extremely rich person who decided to give away so much that he became dirt-poor? Today, Pastor John shows that this is exactly what Jesus did. He is the ultimate example of going from the highest to the lowest, infinitely more than we can imagine. Among other reasons, Jesus did this to set an example for you. And when you follow His example, you’ll be blessed.

How would you like it if you went to a car dealership and bought a new car, then found out that certain things in the car you test-drove weren’t in the “package” you bought? Or what if you ordered a meal at the restaurant, but they didn’t bring the potatoes? Today, Pastor John shows that the grace of giving is part of the “total package” of being a Christian. You may excel in many graces, and that’s great! But without giving, you’re missing the sunroof or the French fries of the Christian life.

If you were asked to list some of the important aspects of living the Christian life, which ones would you name? One of them would probably be fellowship with other believers. Today, Pastor John agrees, and he explores one of the ways in which it’s manifested – giving. The apostle Paul didn’t hesitate to ask the church in Corinth to excel in giving. He knew it was part of the lifestyle of being a Christian. And when you put generosity into action, it’ll spill out into other parts of your Christian experience.

Real Repentance - Part 2
6/26/2025
Have you ever been at a low point in your spiritual life when someone appeared out of nowhere and gave you just the words of encouragement you needed? Today, Pastor John describes a time when this happened in the life of the apostle Paul. He was very discouraged until his friend and co-worker Titus arrived with very good news. And Paul recognized that it was God who had sent the right person at the right time with the right words. Think about this: who does God want you to encourage today?

Real Repentance - Part 1
6/25/2025
Have you ever been in a situation where a friend was doing something very wrong, and you decided to speak up? And then, you had to wonder how they’d respond. Today, Pastor John shows how the apostle Paul faced this situation. He corrected the Corinthian church for a serious wrong, not knowing how they’d react. But when he heard they took his correction seriously, he rejoiced greatly. You, too, can know this joy when God’s word, coming from you, bears good fruit in someone else’s life.

The Call to Separation - Part 2
6/24/2025
It seems pretty obvious that yoking together an ox and a donkey would be a pretty bad idea. So why did God even have to make that a commandment in the Old Testament? According to Pastor John today, God is concerned with something more important than farm animals. He was illustrating the ridiculousness of joining yourself – as a follower of Christ, with someone who’s not following Christ. It’s an unequal pull. You’re going in two different directions. The outcome is not going to be good.
Now, let’s join Pastor John in the book of 2 Corinthians chapter 6 as he continues his message, The Call to Separation.

One of the most difficult balances in the Christian life is between isolation and assimilation. It’s easier to go to one extreme or the other. You can isolate yourself from those who don’t follow Christ, or you can join in with them so heartily that you become just like them. Today, Pastor John shows how to carefully keep that delicate balance in a way that honors Christ. God wants you to be IN the world – you are the salt of the world. And he wants you to be distinct FROM the world – you are the light of the world.

Hardships Of The Ministry - Part 2
6/20/2025
Have you ever looked at buying something like a rare coin or even a baseball card, but first you had to wonder: “is it authentic”? Is it really what it claims to be, or is this some kind of fake? Today, Pastor John continues on his theme of authenticity, taking on the matter of authentic love. What is it? How can you recognize it? How can you live it? As you look at the life of the apostle Paul, you’ll see what it meant to him. And what it took for him – and what it’ll take for you – to truly live it.

How many times have you put something off until tomorrow, but then the time to do it never materialized, and it never got done? Maybe you were going to speak with your neighbor about Christ. Tomorrow. Or you were going to step out in faith in some new ministry. Tomorrow. Today, Pastor John urges you to remember that there’s no guarantee of tomorrow. God wants you to serve him TODAY. And if you haven’t surrendered your life to Him, He offers you salvation TODAY. That’s guaranteed! Tomorrow is not.

Motives for Ministry - Part 2
6/18/2025
Why do we do things for God? Is it to earn salvation? Is there anything you could do that would obligate God to you? Today, Pastor John underscores that salvation is the idea, the initiative, and the work of God alone. It’s not you who can reconcile yourself to God. Only God can reconcile you to Himself. And so, in that case, is there any need to do anything for God? Why bother? Why not live for yourself? Well, if you truly understand what God did to save you, you’ll have no hesitation in living your life for Him.

You probably know some people who have a very big ambition. Maybe it’s to be successful as an athlete or to start a new business and become a household name. Certainly, you have some ambitions of your own. What are they? Today, Pastor John describes the ultimate goal that a Christian should have: to please God. And how do you do that? By faith. As you look over your life and you see the things in which you’re investing yourself, where does “faith” fall within your list of priorities?

Our Future Hope - Part 2
6/16/2025
How many things in this world are “permanent”? If you buy property, can you be confident you’ll always own it? If you find a good job, can you be sure you’ll have that job for as long as you want it? Today, Pastor John reminds us that nothing in this life is permanent. Your permanent life, your permanent body, your permanent home, is in heaven. So, travel light on this planet. Don’t get bogged down by the things of this world. Fixing your eyes on your eternal home is the best way to navigate down here.

Think about this statement and ask yourself whether it seems to be true or false: “If you spend a lot of time thinking about heaven, you’ll not be very productive on earth.” Or how about this: “It’s best to focus on this world; you can worry about heaven later.” Today, Pastor John shows from the writings of the apostle Paul that keeping heaven first and foremost in your thinking is the basis for a fruitful life on earth. Your heavenly perspective has all the benefits for your eternal life, both now and later.

The Marks of True Ministry (Study 2) - Part 2
6/12/2025
We often hear phrases about the Christian life like “denying yourself,” “losing your life,” or “dying daily.” Sounds kinda disheartening, doesn’t it? But today, Pastor John shows us why that’s actually a good thing. It’s because Christ doesn’t want to smash us down; He wants to build us up. He doesn’t want to destroy your personality; He wants to redeem it. When you have the light of Christ living in you, He’s actually making you into the person you were meant to be - fully alive and reflecting His glory.

Let’s say that you had a strong conviction one day that you really ought to do something to serve God. How would you go about figuring out what to do? Today, Pastor John urges us not to make up our own ideas or plans for ministry. We need to seek God’s calling and God’s direction. God has given you a ministry. It’s not necessary for you to create it; it’s necessary for you to seek it. And when you’re seeking God’s personal ministry for your life, you’ll find it, and you’ll be blessed to pursue it.

If you need to find a doctor, where do you start? You probably want to get some kind of recommendation. Maybe from a friend. You may also check to see how many stars they have on an online rating system. Today, Pastor John asks, “what is the recommendation of a minister or a ministry?” His answer – (the same answer as given by the apostle Paul) – is that the lives of the people are the living letter. Your life is a written record to others – not only of Christ but of those who minister to you.

How easy is it to find a balance between two ideas? Often, we pick one extreme or the other and defend it. Today, Pastor John shows how Paul threads the needle between two religious heresies. On the one hand, he faced the teachers who wanted the gentile Christians to follow the Old Testament laws to be saved. On the other, he had those who took the idea of “license” to the extreme of “it doesn’t matter what you do.” But Christ came to bring you “liberty” – not to follow your own desires, but to follow Him.
