The New York Mets comeback fell short, as they dropped the opener to the Colorado Rockies 4-3. Freddy Peralta got the start for the Mets, and it was mostly a typical Peralta start. He looked great through the first four innings and was gifted an early 1-0 lead after the Mets scratched out a run in the 2nd. The 5th inning came around, however, and Peralta struggled. He coughed up the lead but was able to keep the game tied. A bit of a puzzling decision by manager Carlos Mendoza to let Peralta start, and stay in once trouble started, in the 6th backfired. The Rockies took a 2-1 lead and added on some much needed insurance in the 7th. Brett Baty delivered a two-run single that got the Mets within a run but Mark Vientos lined into a double play to end the Mets rally in the 8th. Bo Bichette delivered his first HUGE moment as a Met, as they defeated the Twins for their second straight win. This win was much different than last night, with the Mets offense breaking out for 10 runs. Bichette delivered the game-deciding, bases-clearing RBI double in the 8th. It was also a huge day for Brett Baty and Carson Benge, who hit slammed home runs of their own. It wasn't pretty, but the New York Mets have snapped their losing streak defeating the Minnesota Twins 3--2. The night started with Clay Holmes and his brilliance. Another start where he was able to go seven innings and he did it mostly by throwing his sinker. Offensively, the Mets got started early. They turned a leadoff double by Bo Bichette into an early lead. They responded in the 4th to the Twins tying the game by quickly taking the lead back. But after the Twins tied it, it was Mark Vientos who delivered the hit that put the Mets in front for good. It's not all good news, as Francisco Lindor left the game with left calf tightness. That's the same injury that Juan Soto just returned from tonight. The Mets will go for the series win (when's the last time we said that?) tomorrow. A 3-0 lead? Five perfect from Nolan McLean? It didn't matter, as the New York Mets lost their 12th straight game. It was the perfect storm for the Mets early. Nolan McLean was looking like his dominate self and the Mets jumped out to their first lead of two runs or more since April 7th, thanks to a Francisco Lindor 3-run HR. But, McLean hit a wall in the 6th and 7th innings and that allowed the Minnesota Twins to tie it up. And then Devin Williams had his third straight bad outing, allowing two runs and not recording an out. The Mets did not get a hit off of the Twins bullpen, who entered the game with an ERA north of 5. An early lead. Out hitting the Chicago Cubs. None of it mattered as the New York Mets have now lost TEN games in a row. Mark Vientos got the Mets out to a 1-0 lead early with a solo home run, although the lead was short lived as Ian Happ got Freddy Peralta for a homer of his own to tie the game. Peralta and Cubs starter Jameson Taillon settled in after that and traded zeros. That was until the 6th inning where a pair of two-out walks knocked Peralta out of the game. Brooks Raley came in and faced pinch hitter Carson Kelly. One pitch later and the Cubs had a 4-1 lead. The Mets had a chance in the 8th, as they got the first two men on to start the inning but were only able to produce one run out of the opportunity.
