The Orlando Magic again outmuscled the Detroit Pistons as Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner rose in the clutch to hold off the Pistons late. The Magic now lead their best-of-seven series 2-1 and have control against the top-seeded Pistons heading into Game 4. The Magic again locked in on defense to hold off the Pistons and bottle them up throughout. But the difference was the trust the team showed in each other with good ball movement that led to open threes. And then, when the game was on the line, they kept the faith and stuck together to make big shots. While the Magic got an extremely balanced effort, the game came down to their star players. The Orlando Magic let a chance to take a 2-0 series lead slip through their fingers as the Detroit Pistons responded with a 28-3 run in the third quarter to seize control over the game and even the season. The Magic's poor offensive execution affected their defense in the quarter as things snowballed uncontrollably into the defeat. Orlando's poor shooting and inability to take advantage of first-half miscues ultimately cost the Magic and prevented them from taking control of the game at halftime despite a solid defensive effort for most of the game. The Orladno Magic flipped their narrative with their Game 1 win over the Detroit Pistons. The whole league now views the Magic as a sleeping giant. The Orlando Magic's playoff hopes wobbled in a costly loss to the shorthanded Boston Celtics, sending the team to the 8-seed and a road Play-In game against the Philadelphia 76ers. The Magic lacked urgency from the beginning despite holding the lead through the first half when the Celtics overwhelmed them with three-point shooting in the third quarter. All eyes have been on Paolo Banchero the entire season. He has been the center of criticism and frustration throughout the season. Banchero has still had a season that is statistically similar to his 2024 All-Star season. Some of the criticism is warranted as the young player continues to grow. The Orlando Magic have climbed back into the postseason chase to escape the Play-In. With three games remaining, they control their own destiny for the 8-seed and a guarantee for a home postseason game. They also still have an outside shot at escaping the Play-In entirely. The margin for error is small to achieve those goals. But doing so would be a small measure of redemption from a disappointing season. The Magic must make the most of these opportunities to gain some form of redemption. The good news in that is that Orlando will finally be healthy. The Magic have Franz Wagner and Anthony Black back in the lineup. That gives them the roster they imagined they might have at the beginning of the season and all the matchup advantages that come with it. The Orlando Magic scored a critical victory over the Detroit Pistons, securing their third straight win and their fifth in the last seven. Is it time to believe this team can make a miraculous turnaround and steal back the 6- or 7-seed? Wins like this one are certainly important. The Orlando Magic needed to rally from a 15-point deficit to edge the New Orleans Pelicans. It was a gutsy performance where the Magic found their energy in a dominant defensive fourth quarter. And every win counts at this point of the season. But the seeming lack of energy has defined the season. While energy has long been the defining trait for this Magic team, it has been sorely lacking this season. Or at least inconsistent. If the Magic want to make noise to end the season and win in the Playoffs, they not only need to bring consistent energy to each game, but they also need to fine-tune the details.
