Radio Retropolis

Jimmy and Pug, the stowaway, were rescued by Superman, unbeknownst to them as they were near drowned. When they recovered Pug proclaims he pretended to be the whistler but warned the real whistler was still haunting the ship. Commentary on a poll taken on this date as to whether the people of the US should Help England in its fight against the Nazis.

Jimmy found a stowaway in his cabin and when taking him to the bridge to turn him in, finds himself in a fight in which both boys fell overboard and are now close to drowning unless Clark figures out the peril in time.

The Whistler has injured another crew member and a strange noise comes from Jimmy’s cabin that may shed more light on what this Whistler really is. Commentary on the smart scripting of offering the same scene at two vantage points.

Barnaby gave Jimmy a clear warning through deadly intimidation that what he thought he heard about mutiny, he should just forget for his own good. Clark knows something is not quite right but is playing along with hope of getting to the truth. Commentary on the introduction of an African American character and how the writers who, with no ill intentions, managed to conceive the worst racist stereotypes imaginable.

Barnaby has now officially taken over the Clara M with seemingly good intentions, but Kent isn’t buying it. He decides to play along to discover Barnaby’s real motive.

In our last episode, a great story within our main story began in which Limey conducted a mutiny of the Clara M while Jimmy and McTavish sneak to the control room to send a distress signal to nearby ship the San Jose for assistance. But can they get their cry for help out in time? Commentary on yet another exciting story coming out of the main story and how once again everyone wants to try and kill Superman.

The Captain is out of commission and the crew, made out of wanted criminals, plans a mutiny in order to take the ship to freedom. Commentary on the great sub-story with Jimmy Olsen now driving the story. Also, the war in Europe is getting much more volatile and frightening.

When we last checked in, Kent was about to do something drastic to save Captain Hawkins life. Commentary on how the spectacular layering of the B story of the ship in peril meshes perfectly with the main plot.

After really getting nowhere with his investigation back in Metropolis, Kent decides that he, as Superman, must return to the Clara M. Unbeknownst to Superman, Barnaby is stuck on the side of the ship with the threat of being swept out to sea. Of course, Superman always in arrive time. Here’s a spoiler for you. He doesn’t make it this time.

The Clara M is in serious trouble due to a massive storm at sea dislodging the anchor which continues to crack the side of the ship. Superman, however, is many thousands of miles away in Metropolis.

In the last episode, the whistler almost caused Jimmy his life and Kent discovered the helmsman steering the ship was deliberately off course raising Kent’s suspicions of sabotage even further. Commentary on how the show's story line compensated for the absence of Bud Collyer who needed a rest as they taped three shows a week.

In our last episode, Captain Hawkins escaped certain death once again thanks to Kent and now Jimmy, all alone, hears the whistler and decides to investigate on his own. Knowing that certain doom is about to follow, what kind of trouble will Jimmy find this time? Commentary on what exactly Superman did with Clark's suit when he became Superman. Plus, we mark a very important part of history that occurred the day before this broadcast that was partially responsible for the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese.

In our last episode Captain Hawkins was nearly killed after the whistler’s call was heard just as Barnaby predicted, but luckily for him Superman was there to save him. But what does first mate Barnaby really know and how dangerous can he be? Captain Hawkins finally found an experienced crew headed by a top notch first mate-Mr. Barnaby- the same man who threatened Perry White to sell him the Clara M.

In a brand new 20 episode adventure, Clark and Jimmy begin a high seas adventure as a publicity campaign for the Daily Planet, after they purchased the last of the Clipper ships, that starts to turn deadly by what many sailors claim is due to an old haunting curse. Commentary on the Cutty Sark-the actual last clipper ship in existence.

It’s down to the wire for Superman to catch Hoffman, save Lois, and retrieve the priceless jade. Commentary on Black Sunday-the great dust storm of April 14, 1935 which mostly likely was the basis for this dramatic ending. Plus, a recent dust storm causing tremendous damage in Utah, where this story takes place, is shared.

Two armed bandits invade the home of an elderly couple in which the husband is tortured unmercifully before he reveals the hiding place of his valuables. The two home invaders take the jewels and make their escape.

It’s an action paced episode as Superman rockets across the country to reach San Francisco before the train arrives to rescue Lois, but Hoffman may have a surprise or two up his sleeve that takes this story into hyper drive. Commentary on Kirk Alyn who played Superman in the theatrical serials of 1948 and 1950 and how he almost became the TV Superman when George Reeves was holding out for more money.

Lois Lane’s peril was deepened in the last episode as Hoffman made her a more impactful part of his plan which is now about to take its final turn in their escape to China. Tonight, Lois’ outlook seems hopeless as her very sanity is questioned.

Last time, instead of keeping her cards close to her chest, Lois Lane let on far too much to Walter Hoffman now putting her in grave danger with Superman now many miles away back in Metropolis. Will Kent figure it out in time to have Superman race back to save her? And will he know where to find her even if he did? Commentary tonight on the evolution of Perry White, much to the credit of its portrayer Julian Noa, from a second banana supporting character to the loud, blustery, comical version that became the template for all Perry Whites for several generations.
