Here is what is making news for July 3, 2025. ======================Corangamite Shire’s 2025–26 Budget has been finalised, with $55.6 million committed to projects that support growth, resilience and environmental leadership. It includes $16.7 million for capital works — covering roads, plant and equipment, and public infrastructure. (Cheers Blaise). ============================================Victorian families can enjoy some affordable outdoor fun these school holidays, with more than 35,000 rainbow trout stocked across local lakes. VFA CEO Travis Dowling says it’s a great initiative for keen anglers in Colac-Otway and Corangamite, with plenty of fish ready to be caught. ============================================Forest Fire Management Victoria has issues alerts for planned burns occurring today near Dreeite and Anglesea. The Dreeite Nature Reserve burn will take place 2-point-five kilometres north east of Dreeite, while the the Anglesea Heath burn will take place five kilometres west of Anglesea. Both burns aim to target smaller grass and heath areas within burn blocks, reducing fuel for summer seasons. ============================================Barwon Water customers are set to see only a small increase in their water bills next financial year. The Essential Services Commission has approved maximum water prices for 2025–26, with Barwon Water bills to rise by just $12 — the smallest increase of all Victorian providers. ============================================The TAC is urging South West Victorians to buckle up, with new data revealing more drivers and passengers aren’t wearing seatbelts. Over 8,400 drivers have been caught drug driving in the 2024–25 financial year — outnumbering drink driving offences. Here is what is making news for June 25, 2025.===========================There are positive signs for the Australian Bass population - with fish numbers and sizes sitting at a healthy number. Victorian Fisheries Authorities Travis Dowling says the fish which is prevalent in Lake Bullen Merri is seeing a healthy resurgence. ======================================================The Corangamite Catchment Management Authority is encouraging locals to help protect key waterways like the Barwon River. The Barwon River rises in the Otway Ranges and flows through or near the townships of Forrest, Birregurra, Winchelsea, and Inverleigh, before flowing through Geelong and emptying into the ocean at Barwon Heads. Residents can get involved through Landcare groups, citizen science, or by adopting sustainable farming and weed control practices. ======================================================A rare discovery at Cape Otway, with a massive 3.3 metre Blue Marlin found washed up on the coast. The species usually lives in much warmer waters — between 23 and 31 degrees — leaving experts puzzled about how it ended up so far south. ======================================================Weather warnings have been sent out for those nearby or living on the coastline in South East Australia. Bureau of Meteorology's Angus Hine says those along the South West coast should expect damaging winds and powerful tides. ======================================================Funds of $48,000 dollars have officially been raised to send 12 Corangamite Shire School students over to Papua New Guinea.
