Philadelphia Police are investigating a deadly crash - they say a woman was hit and killed by an ambulance in Kensington. KYWs Tim Jimenez has more from police headquarters. The White House is asking The University of Pennsylvania and eight other major universities to commit to President Trump’s political priorities in exchange for more favorable access to federal money. A document sent to the universities encourages them to adopt the White House’s vision for America’s campuses. Schools are asked to accept the government’s priorities on admissions, women’s sports, free speech, student discipline and college affordability, among other topics. The schools are Vanderbilt, Dartmouth College, the University of Southern California, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Texas, the University of Arizona, Brown University and the University of Virginia. It's not clear how or why they were selected. The American Association of University Professors calls this an "attempt at coercion" and is urging members of the Penn community to sign petition urging the administration to reject the Compact. Penn did not respond to a request for comment. Police in Vineland, Cumberland County, have arrested a man they say was trying to lure children into his car while they were walking to school. Investigators say 33-year-old Rogelio (ro-HEH-lee-oh) Vega was acting in a lewd manner near Veteran's Memorial Middle School on Monday morning. One of the victims tells NBC10 she's relieved the man was arrested... The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia says the attack in Manchester, England was “cowardly” and “a violation of the moral and ethical code of our society.” KYW’s Conner Barkon has more on the local reaction... Jewish leaders in our area say they're saddened but not surprised by today's attacks in Manchester, England. KYW Newsradio’s Conner Barkon has more on the local reaction. ### Police in Vineland, Cumberland County, have arrested a man they say was trying to lure children into his car while they were walking to school. Investigators say 33-year-old Rogelio Vega was acting in a lewd manner near Veteran's Memorial Middle School on Monday morning. According to officials, there were four victims--including two children--across three incidents. Vega faces more than a dozen charges, including luring and enticing a juvenile, endangering the welfare of a child, and criminal sexual contact. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact Vineland Police. ### The deadline for taxpayers who asked for more time to file their 2024 federal income taxes is October 15th. THe shutdown has no affect on that date... the IRS is still expecting those returns by the 15th. The agency says it will have enough staff to accept the filings. ### Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker has sent city council an initial budget for her HOME initiative to build or preserve 30-thousand units of affordable housing. KYW Newsradio’s City Hall bureau chief Pat Loeb reports. ### The federal government shutdown is impacting some of Philadelphia's most iconic and historic sites. The KYW Newsradio All-Local: Thursday, October 2 (Morning Edition): After a series of Septa train fires on its regional rails, the federal railroad administration orders Septa to take several steps in the next 7-days to mitigate the risk of fire on the transit agency's aging Silverliner IV (four) rail cars. That's after the national transportation safety board says those aging rail cars pose an immediate safety risk, and should be sidelined. ... Governor Josh Shapiro says he's determined to preserve vaccine access in Pennsylvania. Today, he signed an executive order taking steps to make sure children in the state can continue to get standard immunizations. ... Call it a dress rehearsal: as fans count the minutes until the Phillies take the field for game 1 of the NLDS on Saturday, the team decided to stay sharp with an intra-squad scrimmage at the bank.

Two elderly women are dead after police say they were struck by vehicles in two separate incidents. KYW’s Sunny Morgan has the details. Philadelphia police are investigating a shooting early this morning in North Philly that left three young men injured. Authorities say it happened near 5th Street and Erie Avenue around 3 a.m. Police got wind of it after a 21-year-old man arrived at the hospital with four gunshot wounds to his back. Shortly after, they say two other men, a 20-year-old and 24-year-old, arrived at another nearby hospital with gunshot wounds throughout their bodies. Officials did not give a status on any of the shooting victims. They also don't have any potential suspects at this time. Philadelphia’s career and technical programs have added a new skill to the curriculum: driving. The attorney who sued SEPTA over its service cuts is now preparing to sue the transit agency again over its fare increase. KYW Newsradio's Sunny Morgan has the story. *** A 77-year-old woman was struck and killed by a car at 54th Street and Lancaster Avenue in West Philadelphia Friday. Police say the woman was struck in the roadway shortly after 5 p.m. by a black Infiniti with a Delaware license plate printed on paper. The car was eastbound on Lancaster when it struck the woman and fled. *** The Pennsylvania Attorney General's office is warning seniors about a scam they say is "trending." They say the fraudsters use medical equipment to get money from Medicare or even directly from seniors. SPS Technologies announces plans for state-of-the-art facility on the same grounds following February fire

An explosion in a compressed air system is what caused the fire that destroyed the SPS Technologies facility in Abington Township, Montgomery County back in February. The vice president of SPS says it's still unclear what caused the explosion, but he says investigators ruled out foul play. The new information was revealed during a public event to show off plans for a new factory.
