Philly Sheriff’s Office addresses concerns about ICE activity at city courthouses

Philadelphia Police are looking for someone they say is behind a series of home break-ins across Southwest Philly. We get details from KYW’s Conner Barkon … Philadelphia police are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred early this morning (SAT) in the city's Germantown section. Authorities say it was just after 12:20 this morning when officers responded to call at North Lambert Street near West Nedro Avenue. They found a man at the scene suffering from a gunshot wound. Medics pronounced him dead about 15 minutes later. Police say details on a motive or potential suspects are not immediately available. Anyone with information is asked to contact police. In a video shared to social media Friday, the Philadelphia Sheriff’s Office says they do not have any kind of partnership with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and that they don’t make arrests within Philadelphia courthouses. Local activists hope ICE agents get the message. KYW’s Sunny Morgan has more. Philadelphia has ended a decades-long practice of setting aside a percentage of city business for women and minority businesses. KYW’s City Hall bureau chief Pat Loeb reports the policy change comes in response to a presidential executive order abolishing racial preference programs. The Delaware County school had already planned to close its doors at the end of the school year, but in a letter to parents yesterday, the administration says it will close to all students -- except seniors -- next Friday, November 21st. In the letter shared with parents, VFMA Chair Gray Beck attributed the decision to low enrollment and staffing issues. The school has said that undergrad students will get back any prepaid tuition for semesters after the fall, but some parents say the situation has caused damage that can’t be fixed with a refund. After a month and a half of round-the clock inspections, SEPTA says the regional rail car inspections ordered by the feds are finished. But that doesn’t mean riders will see immediate relief from cancelled and crowded trains. KYW’s Mike DeNardo reports… One of the defendants arrested for fatally shooting Philadelphia police Sergeant Richard Mendez and wounding his partner two years ago — took the stand today (FRI) against his co-defendants. As KYWs Crime and Justice reporter Kristen Johanson tells us, he pleaded guilty last week to lesser charges – a point the defense hammered at during cross-examination. Water main break floods Northeast Philly intersection

Police say a dispute between two North Philadelphia neighbors got out of hand when one of the men stabbed the other more than 10 times. More now from KYW's Tim Jimenez. A water main burst and caused a road to buckle in Northeast Philadelphia early this morning. The water department says the busted 12 inch main is on Algon Avenue near Hoffnagle Street in Rhawnhurst. Water started pouring out onto the street at around five in the morning. This resident, Michael, lives close to where the break happened. He woke up and thought it was raining at first. But soon he stepped outside. Only a couple more days until Sunday night, when the Eagles host the Lions. Here's Dave Uram.

Sen. John Fetterman hospitalized after falling near his western Pa. home

Senator John Fetterman is recovering today in a Pittsburgh hospital after a fall near his Braddock home, which doctors say was caused by a heart problem. KYW's John McDevitt has the story from the Breaking News Desk. After 43 days, the longest government shutdown in our nation's history is over. President Trump signed a temporary funding bill into law last night after it was approved by the House, mainly along party lines. Federal workers who've been going without a check are once again getting paid.
