How to know when you should offer advice…

7/4/2025
The Ethics of Giving Advice: There is no universal manual for life; we each bear responsibility for our own choices. Philosophy offers therapeutic value — helping people think clearly about life’s challenges. Ethical advice should stem from shared human vulnerability, not superiority. Rule of thumb: Don’t give unsolicited advice unless harm is being done. When asked, offer honest, thoughtful, and clear responses. Guest: Mark Kingwell, Professor of Philosophy, U Toronto. Why are more and more young women freezing their eggs?

7/3/2025
Egg freezing (oocyte preservation) was once a medical procedure for patients facing infertility due to illness or surgery. In 2012, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) declared it “non-experimental,” making elective or social egg freezing more mainstream. Why do orcas share their prey with humans?

7/2/2025
Researchers from Canada, New Zealand, and Mexico have documented 34 cases over the past 20 years where wild orcas appeared to offer freshly caught prey to humans. These encounters involved orcas approaching swimmers, boaters, or people on shore and dropping prey within about a body-length of them. In 97% of the cases, the orcas paused after making the offering, appearing to wait for a human response before either retrieving the prey or leaving it.
