Will Smith and Rick Habeeb from Reeking Aura join us this week ahead of second single the title track off their new LP On the Promise of the Moon. Eugene S. Robinson returns this week. You know Eugene from his musical exploits as the frontman for Bunuel, Oxbow, Whipping Boy and various other projects. Rennie and I are back another episode or KILL OR BE KILLED, our exploration of the bleak, brutal movies of the 70’ and 80’s. The seminal masterpiece PAT GARRETT AND BILLY THE KID, directed by Sam Peckinpah, in prime form, is our subject this time around. There are a multitude of cuts available that have been released over the years so, for the record, we will be used the 1988 Turner Preview Cut for basis. This, 122 minute version is an attempt to combine the theatrical release and some “new” scenes that we edited out of the theatrical version and is widely considered closer to Sam Peckinpah’s intent. We go a little bit off brand with this installment of Kill or Be Killed. Initially, our focus was stated as badass films from the 70’s, but this time around we are covering Romeo is Bleeding for a 90’s neo-noir. It’s a preview of what we will be doing with our Neo Noir Maniacs miniseries over at Necomaniacs. Romeo is Bleeding was released in 1993, directed by Peter Medak, written by Hilary Henkin and stars Gary Oldman. Terence Hanum returns this week as we slide into the end of the year. You guys most likely know Terence primarily through Locrian, Holy Circle and his numerous other musical projects. He is also and accomplished visual artist and author. We discuss his brand new book, NEW FAITH, a speculative science fiction piece that meditates on religion and humanity’s need to feel like that are not alone in the great abyss of the cosmos. SPK, along with Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, were pioneers in the early industrial music scene. Graeme Revell and Neil Hill founded the band in Sydney back in the late 70’s and have influences a legion of industrial and extreme music artists. Graeme returns with his son Robert with the next chapter of SPK with SPKtR, which promises to be the most ferocious incarnation of the band to date. Additonally, Graeme has release The Ineffable Geometry of Light a novel that is part science fiction and part historical fiction focusing on philosophy and technology. I have to be honest, having Steve Austin on as a guest was a bucket list item for me. I have been a Today is the Day fan for decades, having discovered them on Clusterfuck, the three-way split with Chokebore and Guzzard that Amphetamine Reptile released way back in 1994. I was hooked; I thought Today is the Day was the future of music, combined all of the angst, aggression, frustration and energy of metal and punk but with a undefinable uniqueness that defined a whole legion of bands including Deadguy, Kiss It Goodbye and their imitators.
