What does freedom mean to the youth of South Africa?

Freedom Day, Cynthia Shange, South Africa's first Black woman to represent the country at Miss World in 1972, has passed away at the age of 76. She made history during apartheid, breaking barriers on the global stage and paving the way for generations of Black South African women in pageantry, film, and television Today, we honour South Africans like these that contributed to the Freedom we have today. Nonhle, her daughter is a tv and multi media personality in her own right. Speaks to 5 Mid Mornings about her mother.

Lebogang Mashile. The daughter of exiled South African parents, Mashile was born in the United States, and returned to South Africa in the mid-1990s after the end of apartheid. She began to study law and international relations at the University of the Witwatersrand but became more interested in the arts. Today, she is one of the biggest poets in our nation and we are so honoured to have you on the show. Most of her work is about social activism and media; she is a generation-defining poet.

Refilwe Modiselle is a Soweto-born visionary, published author, award-winning actress and multimedia personality. She is affectionately known as Africa’s first successful model with albinism, Refilwe is a history-maker whose trailblazing career has earned global recognition from platforms such as CNN and Oprah’s Power List.

We also learn more about the GROUNDed Justice volunteer program and the sensitive courtroom and justice system support required of the volunteers in the program

Deadlines are the bread and butter of students, but sometimes, life gets in the way and an assignment gets forgotten or neglected. This then calls for some embellishment, so Yonaka asked students about their craziest excuse to get out of an assignment. Some of these students got super creative with their lies!
