Description:

This audiobook is narrated by a digital voice. Christmas Eve narrates the vision of a speaker as he begins in the pew of a Nonconformist (Protestant, but other than the official Church of England) church, travels to the Roman Catholic Basilica of Saint Peter in Vatican City, visits a lecture on Biblical criticism, then returns to the Nonconformist pew. As he travels, he meditates in a dramatic fashion on the nature of faith, established religion, and doubt. Born in 1812 in Surrey, England, Robert Browning wrote his first book of poetry by the time he was 12 years old. He continued to write poetry and plays and, in 1846, married fellow poet Elizabeth Barrett. The pair moved to Italy, where Christmas Eve was written in 1850. Elizabeth's faith informed the theme of the poem, although she insisted that the reader must not confuse the speaker of the poem with Browning himself. Duration - 1h 22m. Author - Robert Browning. Narrator - Digital Voice Edward E. Published Date - Monday, 19 January 2026. Copyright - © 1850 Robert Browning ©.
