The Dawn of Legends
Marcus Thornfield
This audiobook is narrated by a digital voice.
The first light of dawn painted the eastern mountains in shades of amber and rose, but Kael Drakemoor barely noticed the beauty as he stood atop the watchtower of Millhaven. His weathered hands gripped the stone battlements, knuckles white with tension as he gazed across the valley below. Something was wrong. The very air itself seemed to thrum with an energy he had never felt before, a vibration that made his teeth ache and his soul restless.
At twenty-eight, Kael had spent the better part of his life as a simple blacksmith, content to work the forge and live quietly in the peaceful village nestled between the Whispering Hills and the Thornwood Forest. His father had been a blacksmith before him, and his grandfather before that. The Drakemoor family had always been makers, not warriors, despite the martial ring of their surname. But today, as strange lights danced across the morning sky like aurora in broad daylight, Kael felt the weight of destiny settling upon his shoulders like a mantle he had never asked to wear.
"You feel it too, don't you?" The voice belonged to Elena Brightwater, the village healer and keeper of the old lore. She climbed the final steps to join him on the tower, her long silver hair braided with herbs and small crystalline charms that caught the unusual light. Though she appeared to be in her fifties, there was something ageless about her green eyes, as if they had witnessed far more than any mortal lifetime should contain.
Kael nodded without taking his gaze from the horizon. "It's like the world is holding its breath. What's happening, Elena? The lights, the humming in the air... I've never seen anything like it."
Elena moved to stand beside him, her expression grave. "The Convergence," she said simply. "The old prophecies spoke of this day, though I confess I had hoped they were merely tales told to frighten children into good behavior. It seems I was wrong."
